A True Rugby Celebration in the Andean Foothills

Saturday, July 11, 2026.

The Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario became the epicenter of Argentine rugby on a freezing afternoon that failed to cool down the fans' spirits. With temperatures barely reaching 9 degrees Celsius (48°F) and strong winds, thousands of enthusiasts braved the weather to support Los Pumas (the beloved Argentine national rugby team) in their clash against Wales for the Nations Championship.

The Argentine squad gifted their fans a solid victory with an outstanding collective performance, adding a crucial joy during this international window. The crowd responded with enthusiasm, passion, and deep recognition, proving exactly why rugby is such a massive draw in the country.

A Federal and Passionate Crowd

The turnout went far beyond the borders of San Juan, a western Argentine province famous for its vineyards and mountains. The stadium's surroundings in the Pocitos neighborhood were filled with light blue and white jerseys, flags, and drums. According to organizers' estimates, around 15,000 spectators packed the stands.

The scene was vibrant and truly federal: fans traveled from all over the San Juan geography, but also from neighboring provinces like Mendoza, San Luis, La Rioja, and various northern Argentine towns. Furthermore, a large group of supporters from the Litoral region (Santa Fe, Rosario, and Entre Ríos) made the long journey to experience this unique event.

The Build-Up and the Fan Fest

The action started long before the opening whistle. The traditional Fan Fest was one of the biggest attractions of the day, featuring spaces driven by official sponsors, recreational activities, and food courts that saw a massive influx of people at least two hours before kickoff.

Families, groups of friends, and young grassroots players enjoyed the different activities while waiting to enter the stadium. Among the notable attendees was local San Juan figure Juan Pablo Castro, who expressed pride and emotion at hosting Los Pumas in his province once again.

The color and warmth of the people were the true protagonists!

An unforgettable day for national rugby

Los Pumas' final commitment on Argentine soil during this international window left an image that transcends the scoreboard: thousands of people celebrating rugby and backing a team that, once again, felt the unwavering support of an entire nation.
