At approximately 1:30 AM on Saturday, June 13, 2026, an emergency call reported a vehicle fire on Francia Street at 1,160, in the eastern zone of San Miguel de Tucumán, the capital city of the Tucumán province in Argentina. While firefighters and police initially responded to what they thought was a traffic accident, the scene quickly turned into a criminal investigation upon discovering a woman's body inside the vehicle.
The Public Prosecutor's Office identified the victim as Cinthia Verónica Lazarte, 41 years old. Preliminary inquiries indicate she was living in a homeless situation at the time of the event. Her body was found in the back seat of the car, her torso unclothed, with a cable wrapped around her neck.

The Specialized Homicide Unit I, led by Prosecutor Pedro Gallo and fiscal investigator Sylvina Ojeda, immediately went to the scene to coordinate investigative measures. Protocols for such criminal cases were activated.
The Scientific Investigation Team (ECIF) of the Public Prosecutor's Office deployed its Criminalistics, Biochemistry, and Forensic Medicine teams to comprehensively address the crime scene and its surroundings.
Investigators confirmed that the body showed signs of having suffered an attack before the vehicle was set on fire, ruling out an accident and pointing directly to a homicide. Further autopsies will determine if Lazarte was killed before or during the incident.
The case takes on particular relevance given that the victim was in a homeless situation, a group especially vulnerable to violence and exclusion. Authorities are working to clarify whether Lazarte knew her attacker or was the victim of a random act of violence.
The Public Prosecutor's Office continues to work on the case, and new developments are expected in the coming hours with the results of the autopsies and video surveillance analysis.
