Horizonte político argentino con figuras dividiéndose en diferentes direcciones, simbolizando las migraciones políticas
Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, the former Mayor of Buenos Aires (often referred to as "Jefe de Gobierno"), broke his silence in a live stream interview on Gelatina. He launched a stinging critique against his former political ally and current Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, with a phrase that quickly went viral: "Los patos son aves migratorias, es la historia de su vida" ("Ducks are migratory birds, it's the story of her life").
To understand the tension, one must look at the "Juntos por el Cambio" (Together for Change) coalition. For years, this was the primary opposition force in Argentina, uniting diverse sectors. Larreta and Bullrich were key allies within this coalition.
However, the political landscape shifted dramatically with the rise of Javier Milei and his "La Libertad Avanza" party. Milei's victory in the 2023 presidential election shattered the traditional opposition. Bullrich, who finished third in the primaries, accepted a position in Milei's cabinet, effectively abandoning the coalition she helped build. Larreta, who served as Mayor from 2015 to 2023, was left in a difficult political position as the coalition fractured.
The criticism extended to Manuel Adorni, the current Cabinet Chief (Jefe de Gabinete). Larreta described his performance as "una vergüenza" ("a disgrace/shame"). Adorni is currently facing a significant political challenge:
| Topic | Details |
|---|---|
| Impeachment Motion | Lawmakers have collected 120 signatures (needing 129) to censure him. |
| Asset Increase | Reported wealth grew from $20 million to $944 million (775% increase). |
| Omission | Admitted to omitting USD 500,000 in sworn declarations. |
Judge Ariel Lijo is overseeing the investigation into these financial discrepancies.
In Argentine political slang, calling someone a "migratory bird" implies they switch sides or parties based on convenience or power. Bullrich's trajectory—moving from Peronism in the 90s to the center-right PRO, and now to the libertarian right under Milei—exemplifies this behavior in Larreta's eyes.
Despite the setbacks, Larreta confirmed his intention to compete again for the City of Buenos Aires. He aims to capitalize on his track record as a manager during his two terms, hoping to reconnect with the electorate that once supported him.
