The afternoon of Monday, June 22, 2026 turned into a day of sorrow in Mar del Plata, Argentina's most famous beach resort city, located about 400 km south of Buenos Aires. A bus from line 532 lost control, mounted the sidewalk, and ran over a group of people waiting at bus stops located in front of the Bristol Skatepark, at the intersection of Boulevard Marítimo and Rivadavia Avenue—one of the busiest areas of this coastal city.
The accident occurred after 7 PM, during peak activity at Bristol Beach, one of the most popular tourist spots in the city. According to initial reports, the bus ended up hitting several people on the sidewalk, where multiple bus stops are usually concentrated. The impact also destroyed a bus shelter and part of the fence surrounding the skatepark.
The Prosecutor's Office No. 11 for Negligent Crimes, led by prosecutor Germán Vera Tapia, has initiated the investigation. Initial reports indicate that the bus driver was provisionally transferred to the Casino Sub-Police Station, located near the accident site.
The causes of the accident are still being investigated and have not yet been determined. Present at the scene were the municipal Security Secretary, Rodrigo Goncalvez, along with police officers from various sections and personnel from the Argentine Coast Guard.
Mar del Plata is Argentina's most important coastal city, known as the 'Happy City' (La Feliz). Located on the Atlantic Ocean, it receives millions of tourists each summer. Bristol Beach is its most iconic waterfront area, and the Bristol Skatepark is a popular recreational space for young people, right in front of the city's main casino.
