The Beginnings of a Star from Rosario

Born as Susana Guenola Zubiri on September 5, 1929, in Rosario (a major cultural hub in the Santa Fe province of Argentina, also famous for being the birthplace of Lionel Messi), Susana Freyre began her career during the golden age of Argentine cinema. Her immense talent allowed her to build an extensive career not only in Argentina but also in Brazil, Mexico, and Venezuela, establishing a highly distinguished international projection.

Her extensive filmography includes classic titles such as 'El canto del cisne' (The Swan Song), 'Las seis suegras de Barba Azul' (Bluebeard's Six Mothers-in-Law), 'Con el diablo en el cuerpo' (With the Devil in the Body), 'La novia de la marina' (The Bride of the Navy), and 'Un ángel sin pudor' (An Angel Without Shame).

One of her greatest achievements came in 1964, when she received the Silver Condor Award for Best Actress (the Argentine equivalent of the Oscars) for her performance in 'Paula cautiva' (Captive Paula), one of the most celebrated performances of her career.

She was part of memorable casts in Matrimonios y algo más (Marriages and Something More), a highly famous Argentine sketch comedy show that explored the humorous side of marriage. She also shined in 'Teatro 13', 'La buena gente' (The Good People), 'Enséñame a quererte' (Teach Me to Love You), 'Mujeres en presidio' (Women in Prison), 'Somos lo que somos' (We Are What We Are), and 'Entre el amor y el poder' (Between Love and Power), showcasing her versatility across various formats.

A Deep Love for the Theater

Stages were also her home. She made her debut with 'Facundo en la Ciudadela', directed by Orestes Caviglia. Later, she starred in plays like 'El hombre de mundo' (The Man of the World) at the Teatro Nacional Cervantes (Argentina's most important national theater) alongside Esteban Serrador and Rosa Rosen, as well as 'Así es la vida' (Such is Life), 'Gigí', and 'Villa Verdi'.
