Toyota Argentina Breaks Price Freeze: Yaris Adjustments in July 2026

04/07/2026 09:42 - Economia

The End of the Price Freeze for New Cars

The Argentine automotive market is shifting once again. According to a report by iProfesional published on July 2, 2026, Toyota decided to end the price freeze it had maintained over the previous months. The first model to reflect this adjustment was the Toyota Yaris, which registered a general increase of around 1%.

In Argentina, brand new cars are commonly referred to as 0km. This price movement comes in a context where the escalation of the US dollar exchange rate and rising production costs are pressuring automakers to update their price lists. However, Toyota opted for a selective strategy: slightly adjusting its entry-level model while keeping the prices of the rest of its fleet steady, especially its best-selling vehicles.

Updated Prices for the Toyota Yaris (July 2026)

The Japanese hatchback, equipped with a 1.5L engine and a CVT automatic transmission across all its versions, presents the following pricing structure in Argentine Pesos (ARS):

Version Previous Price Price July 2026
XS CVT 5P ARS 34,284,000 ARS 34,627,000
XLS + CVT 5P ARS 38,465,000 ARS 38,084,000
S CVT 5P ARS 40,956,000 ARS 41,366,000

*Values expressed in Argentine Pesos (ARS).

Why Did the Hilux and Corolla Not Increase?

Despite the adjustment to the Yaris, Toyota decided to keep the values of its leading models unchanged. Vehicles like the Hilux pickup truck, the Corolla Cross, and the Yaris Cross SUVs remain at last month's prices.

This strategy responds to the need to protect market share. These models are facing the onslaught of new rivals, especially Chinese brands that have entered the Argentine market with very aggressive price-to-product propositions. In a year where competition is fierce, raising the price of star products could mean losing valuable sales.

Market Overview and the Dollar Context

Other brands have not yet updated their prices, but they are expected to follow Toyota's steps throughout July. The market anticipates a wave of adjustments driven by the behavior of the US dollar. For context, Argentina has exchange controls, meaning there is an official rate and a parallel market rate known locally as the blue dollar. In early July 2026, the official dollar hovered around ARS 1,510 for sale, while the blue dollar reached ARS 1,525.

Direct competitors, like the Volkswagen Polo, are already priced above ARS 37 million, placing the Yaris in a competitive position within the compact hatchback segment.
