Dallas, July 14, 2026. The Spanish national team has secured a place in the World Cup final after defeating France 2-0. The goals were scored by Mikel Oyarzabal from a penalty kick and Pedro Porro in a match held at the Dallas Stadium.
The first goal came in the 21st minute. Young winger Lamine Yamal generated the play after being fouled inside the area by French defender Lucas Digne. The penalty was calmly executed by Oyarzabal, opening the scoring for La Roja.
In the second half, Spain found breathing room in the 57th minute. Pedro Porro extended the lead after a great passing sequence, leaving French goalkeeper Mike Maignan with no chances. France attempted to react with shots from Kylian Mbappé and Dembélé, but Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simón responded flawlessly.
The match had a tense extra-football context. Former Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy had stated days before in the media outlet El Debate that the French team plays without Frenchmen. His remarks were repudiated by the Spanish government, while the French Embassy clarified that out of the 26 players, 23 were born on French soil and the remaining 3 hold French nationality.
Spain will now await the result of the second semifinal, which will feature Argentina and England on July 15, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The winner of that exciting clash will face La Roja in the battle for the world title.
