In the early hours of June 13, 2026, around 1:30 AM, police officers responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Francia Street 1160, in the eastern zone of San Miguel de Tucumán. This city is the capital of Tucumán province in northern Argentina. Upon arriving to control the flames, officers made a grim discovery: a body was inside the vehicle.
A police operation quickly secured the area. The victim was identified as Cinthia Verónica Lazarte, aged 41, who was living on the streets. According to the local newspaper La Gaceta, she was a mother of four children aged between 5 and 19.
The case is being led by the Specialized Homicide Prosecution Unit I, headed by Prosecutor Pedro Gallo. He went to the scene accompanied by the fiscal investigator Sylvina Ojeda. In Argentina, a 'fiscal' is a public prosecutor responsible for investigating crimes.
The Scientific Investigation Team (ECIF) also worked at the scene. This team includes specialists in Criminalistics, Biochemistry, and Forensic Medicine, whose job is to collect evidence and reconstruct the events.
Investigators determined that the body was located in the back seat of the car and showed signs of an attack prior to the fire.
According to gathered information, the body had a cable around the neck and the torso was unclothed. These findings strongly support the hypothesis of homicide.
The prosecution ordered a review of security cameras in the area to identify suspicious movements and determine how the victim arrived at the vehicle. Witness statements were also taken, and items of interest for the case were collected.
Currently, there are no detainees or named suspects. The prosecution awaits the results of the forensic examinations to establish the precise mechanics of the crime and to advance towards identifying the perpetrator.
