Autopista Panamericana en la madrugada con luces de emergencia y vehículos deteniéndose, escena de accidente de tránsito con ambiente dramático
The morning of June 20 turned into a nightmare for a family traveling along Autopista Panamericana (Panamericana Highway), one of Argentina's most important expressways connecting the northern suburbs with Buenos Aires City. Around 6:00 AM, a black Volkswagen Gol Power driven by Juan Manuel Toloza (27) suffered a mechanical failure and came to a stop in one of the central lanes at kilometer 31, near the junction with Route 197, in the Buenos Aires district of Pacheco.
Inside the vehicle were his partner, Camila Martínez (27), and their young daughter, Ainoa (2 years old). Reports indicate the driver activated his hazard lights after becoming stranded on the roadway, while other vehicles swerved to avoid the obstacle.
Security cameras along the highway captured the full sequence of the tragic crash. A black Renault Captur SUV, driven by Gustavo Ariel González Zapata (49), a resident of Escobar, slammed into the stationary Gol at nearly full speed, apparently without braking.
The force of the collision pushed the Gol against the guardrail, destroying its rear end completely, while the Captur overturned. The SUV driver was taken to Hospital de Pacheco with minor injuries, as was the child's father, who suffered emotional shock following the incident.
Prosecutor Karina Bianchi classified the case as wrongful death (homicidio culposo) — a charge applied when a death results from negligent or reckless behavior without intent to kill. The main suspect is the driver of the Renault Captur.
The investigation is being handled by Comisaría 5° de El Talar (the 5th Police Station of El Talar), located in the Tigre district. Personnel from Firefighters, Autopistas del Sol (the highway concession company), and the Scientific Police of Buenos Aires Province worked at the crash scene. An oil spill was also reported on the asphalt following the impact.
After the accident, the highway remained completely closed toward Buenos Aires City. Traffic personnel implemented detours at the Pitágoras exit and the kilometer 19.7 toll booth to allow investigators and emergency teams to work. The lanes heading toward the province operated normally.
