New Presidential Spokesman Debuts Defending Argentina's Economic Path

30/06/2026 15:45 - Politica

A New Face for Government Communication

Adrián Ravier gave his first press conference this morning as Argentina's new presidential spokesman from the press room at Casa Rosada (the Argentine equivalent of the White House), marking the start of his leadership of the national Government's Communication office. The official sought to reaffirm the libertarian administration's economic direction and close the chapter on the scandal that led to Manuel Adorni's departure.

Ravier took office with a more technical tone than his predecessor, focusing on economic data and avoiding the controversies surrounding the former Cabinet Chief, who is under investigation for alleged illicit enrichment after registering a 775% increase in his personal wealth.

Key Statements from the New Spokesman

On the Economy

"We are at a double turning point in the effects of the economic program. First regarding Argentine history and second regarding the 2023-2027 stabilization program and its logical positive effects" declared Ravier, defending utility rate increases by arguing that they must return to market prices.

On Manuel Adorni

He read a prepared statement: "Manuel Adorni made the personal decision to leave the Government irrevocably and face the judicial process as a private citizen. It is not part of my role as spokesman to discuss details of the case".

On PRO Party Alliance

"PRO is a key ally. We don't have a majority today in the Chamber of Deputies or Senate to pass laws on our own, which is why these alliances are important" he stated, emphasizing that Mauricio Macri and Javier Milei are in sync. PRO is Argentina's center-right political party founded by former President Macri.

On Diego Santilli

The spokesman affirmed that the new Cabinet Chief marks a new political stage for the Government, describing him as someone with "broad political experience" who had been strengthening ties with provincial governors.

Diego Santilli's Swearing-in with Provincial Backing

President Javier Milei will swear in Diego Santilli as the new Cabinet Chief on Tuesday June 30, 2026 at 5:30 PM in the Salón Blanco (White Hall) of Casa Rosada. The event will feature broad governor attendance as a political gesture of support for the national government amid the cabinet reshuffle.

Confirmed Governors for the Ceremony
Raúl Jalil (Catamarca)Leandro Zdero (Chaco)
Juan Pablo Valdés (Corrientes)Carlos Sadir (Jujuy)
Alfredo Cornejo (Mendoza)Rolando Figueroa (Neuquén)
Alberto Weretilneck (Río Negro)Marcelo Orrego (San Juan)
Claudio Vidal (Santa Cruz)Osvaldo Jaldo (Tucumán)
Rogelio Frigerio (Entre Ríos)Gustavo Sáenz (Salta)
Martín Llaryora (Córdoba)Jorge Macri (Autonomous City of Buenos Aires)

Santilli, 59 years old, served as Vice Mayor of Buenos Aires City from 2015 to 2021 and had been serving as Interior Minister since November 2025. His arrival at the Cabinet Chief position creates internal tensions within the libertarian faction, particularly regarding Ignacio Devitt, who will serve as his second-in-command and is considered a trusted ally of Karina Milei (the president's sister and influential political figure).

Education and Other Announcements

During the conference, Ravier also highlighted that the 2025 Aprender tests showed the best Language results in the last decade, as announced by Human Capital Minister Sandra Pettovello. Aprender is Argentina's national standardized learning assessment system. Additionally, he reported on the modernization of the medical residency system, which is now conducted 100% digitally.

In other matters, the Government confirmed additional aid to Venezuela: a Hercules aircraft and an Embraer plane carrying specialists in water treatment plants and collapsed structures, plus medical personnel.

Context: The Adorni Scandal

Manuel Adorni resigned on June 27, 2026 after a scandal erupted over his 775% wealth increase, growing from approximately $20 million pesos to $944 million pesos. The former official is under investigation for alleged illicit enrichment. According to Matías Tabar's statements, Adorni paid 245,000 dollars in cash (off-the-books) for renovations at Indio Cuá country club and held 500,000 dollars in undeclared cryptocurrency.

The censorship motion against him had gathered 120 signatures out of 129 needed in the Chamber of Deputies. His replacement, Diego Santilli, must now coordinate with Congress and governors to advance the Government's structural reform agenda.
