On July 11, 2026, Tomás Cataldi, a 20-year-old young man, decided to break his silence on social media with a video that quickly went viral. In the footage, he accused his mother, renowned fashion influencer Geraldine Mayer, of alleged psychological abuse during his childhood and adolescence.
For context, Geraldine Mayer is a well-known social media personality in Argentina, famous for showcasing a glamorous lifestyle. Cataldi described his mother as a narcissistic, manipulative, and abusive person. “On social media, she posted photos pretending to have a perfect family, but at home, she yelled at me, humiliated me, and made me feel that everything was my fault,” the young man stated. He also showed screenshots of WhatsApp conversations and audio messages that, according to him, support his story.
Tomás detailed hurtful phrases that remained etched in his memory, such as: “I never believed I would have a son as stupid as you”. In one of the most difficult moments of his testimony, he revealed that during his adolescence, he attempted to take his own life. “Instead of asking me if I was happy or how I was doing, they told me I was crazy and that they had to institutionalize me,” he recounted with pain.
Currently, Cataldi lives alone in Argentina, supports himself through his work, and stated that he has no contact with his parents, who reside in Miami, USA. He also clarified that this is not a legal complaint: “I am just telling my experience. My intention is to help people who might be going through something similar so they ask for help and do not stay silent”.
Following the scandal, Geraldine Mayer set her Instagram account to private. However, she communicated by phone with journalist Pilar Smith during the broadcast of LAM (a popular Argentine entertainment show aired on América TV) to give her version of the events from Miami.
“She was very distressed and denied everything. She told me she couldn't tell me anything right now, but that it is not how he says it was. He lived with her in Miami and now moved to Argentina. She was doing very badly,” the panelist said on air, confirming that the influencer was devastated by the public repercussion of the case.
Entertainment figures in Argentina such as Yanina Latorre and Mariana Fabbiani expressed their support for Cataldi after hearing his testimony, which reopened the debate about the difference between public life on social media and the reality behind closed doors at home.
