Operation Shield: Milei Activates Electoral and Economic Strategy Towards 2027

The New Political Design to Shield the Administration

The administration of Javier Milei has activated its electoral strategy looking ahead to the 2027 presidential elections. The main objective of the ruling party is to eliminate the PASO (Primary, Open, Simultaneous, and Mandatory elections—Argentina's unique primary system where parties must compete before the general election), though it currently faces a legislative challenge, holding only 21 senators out of the 37 needed to approve the measure.

To overcome this obstacle, Cabinet Chief Diego Santilli is negotiating with various provincial governors. Meanwhile, Minister Guillermo Francos assured that Milei's re-election is necessary and possible. Additionally, the government is evaluating the implementation of a fiscal shutdown adapted to the Argentine reality.

Economic Shield and Stability

The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) launched a shield of measures with a firepower of $20 billion USD to maintain the exchange rate at 1,515 Argentine pesos (ARS) per dollar. The country risk—a key financial indicator measuring the risk of investing in Argentina—experienced a notable improvement, dropping to 402 basis points.

On the domestic front, the CATA inflation index for June stood at 1.8%, while the International Monetary Fund (IMF) projects a growth of 3.5%. The government's financial plan projects covering $24.9 billion USD by 2027.

Electoral Projections and Diplomacy

According to internal polls, Milei would stand at 32 points in positive image, while his main competitor, Axel Kicillof (Governor of the Buenos Aires province, the country's most populated and economically relevant district), would be at 27 points.

In the international arena, the government is promoting the so-called atom diplomacy, a plan to export nuclear reactors that seeks to position Argentina on the global energy map and achieve the coveted investment grade status.

Milei's re-election is necessary and possible, affirmed Guillermo Francos, highlighting the ruling party's optimism ahead of the upcoming elections.
