Argentina's Emotional Return Home: A Nation Awaits After the 2026 World Cup

20/07/2026 09:45 - Actualidad

The National Team's Return Home

After the dream ended in the 2026 World Cup final against Spain on July 19, 2026, the Argentine national team begins its journey back home on July 20, 2026. The Aerolíneas Argentinas flight took off from New York at 8:17 AM and is expected to land at Ezeiza International Airport (the main international hub for Buenos Aires) around 6:30 PM.

One of the most emotional moments of the return will be the reception at Ezeiza, where airport personnel prepared a giant tribute with the word GRACIAS (Thank you). The message measures 150 meters, required 20 cans of paint, and took 3 days of work to show the fans' affection for the squad, who left everything on the pitch.

The Government's Operation and Possible National Holiday

The national government is awaiting the delegation's arrival. President Javier Milei announced that he will declare a national holiday depending on what the squad decides. To coordinate the return, a massive security operation was set up, led by the General Secretariat under Karina Milei and the Ministry of Security commanded by Alejandra Monteoliva.

It was reported that the Casa Rosada (the iconic pink government house and seat of the executive branch in Buenos Aires) would be available to the players if they wish to use the facilities, although sources close to the team indicated they would avoid any political or partisan events, focusing solely on thanking the fans.

Sources consulted: FM Del Condado, La Nación and Urgente24.

Delegation Departures

Not all the players are returning together. It was confirmed that Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul would not travel with the rest of the team, while other players would head directly to their European clubs. Messi played his 33rd World Cup match, being substituted at the 70th minute for Giuliano Simeone during the final.

Scaloni's Future

Coach Lionel Scaloni announced that he will fulfill his contract with the AFA (Argentine Football Association) until December 2026, and will then evaluate his personal future in dialogue with the institution. His cycle continues to mark a golden era for Argentine football.
