Romina Calvo, 40, was stabbed to death in her Villa Devoto home. Her husband, Walter Verón, left a letter mentioning numerologist Verónica Asad, now under investigation by Judge Darío Bonanno. The autopsy revealed more than 40 wounds.

A Crime That Shakes Villa Devoto

The femicide of Romina María de los Ángeles Calvo, 40, occurred on August 13, 2026 at a house on Pedro Morán 5200, in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Villa Devoto, has taken an unexpected turn. Justice is now investigating Verónica Asad, known as “Pitty La Numeróloga”, after finding an altar with prayers directed to her and a handwritten letter from the main suspect, Walter Humberto Verón, 56.

According to judicial sources cited by TN and Infobae, Calvo's body showed at least 40 cuts and stab wounds, with injuries predominantly on her back, arms, and hands, suggesting she tried to defend herself. The autopsy, scheduled for this Thursday at the Judicial Morgue, will determine which wound was fatal.

The Femicide's Letter: “That Pitty Changed Her Whole Personality”

Verón, a registered butcher, left a handwritten letter dated the Sunday before the crime. In the text, seized by investigators, it reads: “I'm very tired of all this injustice I'm going through with this Romina that I can't stand anymore. Because she always screwed me over. I worked so much for her, my children, and now she has those new contacts... That Pity (sic) changed her whole personality. And she wants me out of the house. People don't know how much I worked for everyone”.

The letter also mentions a property in La Tablada, La Matanza district, whose sale would have generated money that the accused questions. Judge Darío Bonanno, in charge of the National Criminal and Correctional Court No. 62, seeks to determine what happened to those funds.

The Altar and the Bible with a Secret

During the inspection of the house, investigators found in the living-dining room a small altar with candles, photos, and letters addressed to “Pitty La Numeróloga”, with whom the victim worked. Additionally, inside a Bible they found a hidden note referring to the sale of the La Tablada property, a detail that gains relevance because it coincides with what Verón wrote.

The victim owned a franchise of the brand “Pitty Velas”, by Asad, and according to the numerologist, she wanted to open another location near her home.

Who is “Pitty La Numeróloga” and Why She's Under Investigation

Verónica Asad, known as “Pitty La Numeróloga”, is a businesswoman with over a million Instagram followers, famous for her prediction columns and her candle brand. In an interview with Infobae, Asad said she met Romina in her workshops and that, despite the victim having “debts at unrecoverable levels,” she opened the doors of her store: “She never gave me money. I paid for her cabs”.

However, Judge Bonanno has certified that Asad was accused of fraud for capturing vulnerable people in a case filed in Court No. 31, where she was ultimately acquitted. This background raised alarms, and the magistrate decided to investigate her connection with the victim.

Asad also recounted the moment she learned of the crime: “The son called me and told me his dad killed his mom”. She also stated she never met Verón, who remains hospitalized at the Vélez Sarsfield Hospital with severe self-inflicted cuts to his neck, femur, and abdomen.

How the Femicide Happened

The incident was discovered at 6:50 a.m. on August 13, when a call to 911 alerted that a 21-year-old young man, the couple's son, reported that his father had killed his mother. According to initial investigations, the son was sleeping when his 8-year-old sister woke him after hearing their mother's screams.

When SAME doctors arrived, the victim was already dead. SAME director Alberto Crescenti confirmed that “they could do nothing.” Verón was arrested about two blocks from the scene, with self-inflicted stab wounds. A butcher knife with a white handle was seized, which would be the murder weapon.

The case is classified as femicide and attempted suicide. The 8-year-old daughter, who witnessed the attack, will undergo a Gesell chamber to testify. The couple's children are considered key witnesses.

Next Steps in the Investigation

Justice seized cell phones and electronic devices from the house to analyze the couple's communications and their contacts with Asad. The preliminary autopsy report is also expected, and the fate of the money from the sale of the La Tablada property will be investigated.

Meanwhile, Asad offered to cover the funeral expenses for Romina and revealed that the 21-year-old son asked her to continue running the business his mother managed.
