Tragedy in Chaco: 18-Year-Old Footballer Dies in Road Accident

In the early hours of July 5, 2026, a tragic road accident shook the town of Margarita Belén, in the northern Argentine province of Chaco. An 18-year-old footballer, identified as Jeremías Lucas Correa, lost his life following a violent crash between the motorcycle he was riding and a car on National Route 11, at kilometer 1024.

The accident occurred around 3:45 AM when a Honda Titan motorcycle carrying two youths from Colonia Benítez collided with a Volkswagen Gol car driven by a 21-year-old man. While the exact causes are still under investigation by the local Prosecutor's Office, the incident left a deep mark on the region, which quickly organized to support the affected families.

Health Status of the Injured

The motorcycle passenger, identified by his initials M.J.B., also 18, was urgently transferred to the Hospital Perrando in Resistencia, the capital city of Chaco. He suffered a fractured femur and left arm, along with multiple traumas. Despite the severity of his injuries, he is reported to be conscious and stable, providing a hopeful respite to his loved ones amidst the tragedy.

The car driver, a resident of Margarita Belén, also suffered a traumatic brain injury and other injuries, receiving medical assistance at the same healthcare center. By court order, he was detained while the investigation proceeds under the charge of culpable homicide in a traffic accident.

Jeremías's Legacy in Football

Jeremías Lucas Correa was not only a young local resident but also a promising footballer for Club Atlético Central Benítez, a sports institution on the outskirts of Resistencia where he developed as a player. The news of his passing had a profound impact on the Chaco sports community, which mobilized to accompany his family during this difficult time.
