The Return of a Heroine from La Plata

After a high-risk mission of immense human value, Auxiliary Officer Micaela López Fariña returns to her home in La Plata, a major city located in the Buenos Aires province. Her participation in rescuing victims in Venezuela has left an indelible mark of pride for her entire community.

López Fariña was part of the PUMA USAR ARG-13 delegation, a squadron certified by the Federation of Volunteer Firefighters of the Province of Buenos Aires, specially trained for large-scale catastrophes. Her work involved locating survivors under the rubble, a task where every second counts.

A Monumental Logistical Deployment

The Federal Emergency Agency (AFE), under the National Ministry of Security, coordinated the entire logistics so that brigadiers like Micaela could fulfill their mission. From Argentine soil, healthcare professionals, nurses, ambulances, water purification plants from the Argentine Army, and canine units were deployed.

  • 134 tents
  • 48 kitchen kits
  • Mattresses and stretchers for those affected.

The Flight of Hope Led by Solidaire

On July 4, 2026, the Maiquetía International Airport received a historic humanitarian flight. Organized and piloted by Enrique Piñeyro, founder of the NGO Solidaire, a Boeing 787 transported more than 100 Venezuelan doctors residing in Argentina (ASOMEVENAR) along with rescuers from CEPA and Grupo Fénix.

The plane carried 8 tons of supplies donated by the Argentine Red Cross, in an act of pure civilian solidarity that demonstrates the spirit of brotherhood between nations.

The Context of the Tragedy and International Response

On June 24, 2026, two earthquakes of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 shook Venezuela. According to the official verified report from July 5, 2026, the tragedy left 3,342 dead and 16,740 injured. The UN estimates that between 50,000 and 70,000 people could be missing.

However, amidst the sorrow, solidarity shines brightly. Rescuers from 30 countries (more than 3,681 volunteers in total) deployed to the South American country. Argentina positioned itself as the country with the second-largest presence, proving that humanity unites in the face of adversity.
