La Plata is the capital city of Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, located approximately 60 kilometers (37 miles) southeast of Buenos Aires City. It is one of the most important judicial and administrative centers in the country.
The arrest of Federico Hernán Pez, 52, revealed a disturbing pattern of alleged crimes spanning years. He served as Director of Territorial Information within the Municipal Cabinet of La Plata before his removal.
According to official documentation, on June 9, 2026, the official's ex-partner reported being beaten during an argument at a residence located at 51 Street between 28 and 29 in La Plata. After a call to 911 (Argentina's emergency number), police officers arrived at the scene and proceeded with his apprehension.
The victim presented visible injuries to one eye and was treated at a hospital emergency room. The Guarantees Court No. 4, presided by Judge Juan Pablo Masi, converted the apprehension into formal detention, finding sufficient evidence to charge him with aggravated minor injuries in the context of gender violence, in conjunction with sexual abuse with carnal access.
What initially appeared to be an isolated incident revealed a much more complex situation. A report from the Ministry of Women and Diversity of Buenos Aires Province —a provincial government body dedicated to protecting women's rights— submitted to the Prosecutor's Office (UFI N° 13) revealed that Pez has accumulated at least:
The cases involve allegations of:
The provincial agency expressed "deep concern" about the detected risk level and identified what appears to be a systematic pattern of gender-based violence affecting multiple victims over the years.
Detained: Federico Hernán Pez

Position: Director of Territorial Information
Department: Cabinet of the Chief of Staff, La Plata Municipality

The Municipality of La Plata proceeded with his immediate removal from office upon learning of the arrest.
Among the most serious complaints is one from 2021, when a female employee working under his supervision accused him of workplace and sexual harassment. According to her account, on one occasion the official left an envelope containing a condom on a desk while pressuring the worker using his hierarchical position.
Additionally, it emerged that at least three young women between 22 and 23 years old reported experiencing harassment while working at the Territorial Information Agency. According to their testimonies, Pez used his position of authority to make advances and exert power dynamics over contracted female employees.
Lawyer Axel Daniel Hurtado, representing one of the complainants, stated that there are more victims and emphasized the need to maintain protective measures for the women who testified before the Justice system.
The Cabinet of Crimes Against Sexual Integrity participated in the investigation, and the Ministry of Women of Buenos Aires Province intervened ex officio through its critical case management unit.
What is the UFI? The Fiscal Investigation Unit (UFI) is the Argentine equivalent of a prosecutor's office, responsible for investigating and prosecuting criminal cases.
The provincial agency explicitly requested that any request for release be denied, considering there was a high risk of repeated violence and a need to protect the complainants.
Pez chose not to testify when questioned and remains detained at the disposal of the Justice system. The judge rejected the bail request filed by his defense team.
