Tensions in the Persian Gulf reached a critical new level in the early hours of June 28, 2026, when Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) executed a joint operation using missiles and drones against what it called US military installations in Kuwait and Bahrain.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that its forces launched attacks against 10 Iranian military targets in multiple locations around the Strait of Hormuz during the night of Saturday, June 27, 2026, under direct orders from President Donald Trump.
Destroyed targets included:
The IRGC naval command posted on its official X (Twitter) account: The indiscriminate US attacks against Sirik will not undermine our control over the strait. But our attacks against violators serve as a reminder for other vessels of the correct route for safe passage.
Additionally, they issued a direct threat: As for US bases in the region, that is another matter. They will face hell in the coming days.
The Kuwaiti Army announced that its air defense systems repelled an attack with hostile missiles and drones. Authorities confirmed the activation of defenses against the threat. Kuwait hosts Camp Arifjan, one of the most important US military bases in the region.
The Ministry of Interior activated air raid sirens and urged the population to remain calm and head to the nearest safe location. Bahrain is home to the US Naval Support Activity Bahrain, headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet.
The US President issued a stern message on his Truth Social platform:
US planes just attacked Iranian missile and drone warehouses, as well as coastal radar sites, for violating the Ceasefire Agreement, AGAIN! It is very possible they will never learn!
Trump added a chilling warning: There may come a point when we are no longer able to be reasonable and are forced to militarily complete the job we started with such success. If that happens, the Islamic Republic of Iran will cease to exist!
The escalation occurs despite the ceasefire agreement signed between Washington and Tehran, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar. The US bombings were retaliation for an Iranian drone attack that struck the oil tanker M/T Kiku, flying a Panamanian flag, at 4:30 AM US Eastern Time while carrying over two million barrels of crude oil.
The conflict began on March 2, 2026 following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, leaving so far more than 4,200 dead and one million displaced in Lebanon, according to data from international organizations.
This information was prepared with data from Infobae, official CENTCOM statements, and declarations from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran.
