Alfa Pampa Enters Debt Restructuring: Production Drops Amidst Economic Crisis

A Renowned Argentine Brand at an Economic Crossroads

For those unfamiliar with Argentine culture, an alfajor is a traditional and beloved South American treat: two round cookies sandwiched together with dulce de leche (a sweet milk caramel spread) or jam, often coated in chocolate or rolled in sugar. The company Alfajores Baltazar S.A., responsible for the popular brand Alfa Pampa, has reportedly entered a phase of financial restructuring known locally as concurso preventivo.

According to a report by La Arena, this legal mechanism allows companies experiencing financial distress to renegotiate their debts with creditors. The primary goal is to avoid bankruptcy, maintain operations, and ultimately recover financial viability. The judicial decision was made on June 25, 2026, by the National Court of First Instance in Commercial Matters No. 27, presided over by Judge María Virginia Villarroel, with the public announcement published on July 8, 2026.

The Impact of Falling Mass Consumption

During its peak, after a decade of sustained growth, this small and medium-sized enterprise (known in Argentina as a pyme) reportedly produced around 1.2 million alfajores per month, utilizing an installed capacity that was even higher. However, an adverse economic scenario has dealt a severe blow to its operations.

Currently, production volume has dropped to an average of 750,000 units per month. This contraction in demand reportedly forced the company to adjust its personnel structure. The main challenge the company faces is sustaining the cost of an industrial infrastructure originally designed for a much larger manufacturing scale than what is currently required.
