Faith That Moves Mountains in La Guaira

An international operation deploys cutting-edge technology to find Lucas Gamez alive.

Hope remains intact amidst the tragedy. International rescue teams, with the valuable participation of Argentine specialists, intensified their efforts on Sunday, July 5 to find Lucas Gamez, an 8-year-old Argentine boy trapped after the collapse of the Miramar building in La Guaira, Venezuela. The building collapsed due to earthquakes recorded on June 24, 2026.

The Voice That Pierces the Rubble

During the early morning, brigades took advantage of the absolute silence at 5:00 AM to conduct a highly sensitive sound test. The technique involved playing a recording of the voice of Blanca Martinez, the boy's mother, using equipment capable of detecting even heartbeats under earth and concrete.

My heart tells me that Lucas will be back with us, said Blanca Martinez, who has not left the vicinity of the building for a single moment.

Regarding the preliminary results of the acoustic test, Martinez cautiously explained that they heard a couple of things, but it could be the building collapsing, which is normal. Authorities and emergency teams are awaiting definitive results to determine the next steps in the rescue strategy.

A Highly Complex Operation

The deployment in the area is impressive in magnitude and combines multiple technologies to maximize the chances of finding Lucas alive. The following are being used:

  • Probes with cameras to explore cavities.
  • Cell phone signal tracking.
  • Thermal sensors to identify body heat.

Lucas had entered the building with his uncles just minutes before the first earthquake struck on Wednesday, June 24.

A Birthday That Renews Hope

The urgency of the tasks has an even more emotional motive: on Monday, July 6, little Lucas turns 9 years old. Born in Argentina, he lived in Buenos Aires until January of this year, when his family decided to move to the South American country. The wish of the entire rescue team and his loved ones is to celebrate this date with him out of the rubble, in a reunited embrace.
