Brilliant Argentine Cuisine: Four Local Restaurants Earn First Michelin Star

The renowned 2026 Michelin Guide has revealed its new distinctions for Argentina, confirming the exceptional moment of local gastronomy. Four establishments have been awarded their first Michelin star, a prize that recognizes high-level cuisine worth making a detour for.

The Star Lighting Up Buenos Aires: Han

In the trendy neighborhood of Villa Crespo (a vibrant cultural hub in the Argentine capital), the restaurant Han brings the only new star to Buenos Aires. Its chef and owner, Pablo Park, offers a unique experience starting with a discreet hallway leading to an intimate room with dim lighting and a large vertical garden. The menu features contemporary Korean degustation menus, highlighting the Mandu ceremonial, a dumpling filled with beef tongue in jang-jorim with white kimchi and purple sweet potato.

Mendoza Shines with Three New Stars

The province of Mendoza, located at the foothills of the Andes mountains and famous globally for its Malbec wine, concentrated three of the four new distinctions, cementing itself as a world-class culinary hub:

  • Cal: Located in the southwest of Mendoza within the Sitio La Estocada estate-winery, under the direction of Matías Michelini. Chef Enzo González Petra proposes a seven-course menu born from the orchard, the farm, and the Andean river. It also earned the Green Star for its commitment to sustainability and local producers.
  • Centauro: An old mansion converted into a restaurant, led by Colombian chef Aris Pabón. Highlights include langoustines with meunière sauce, paired with craft beers and signature wines.
  • La VidA: Situated in Chacras de Coria (a picturesque, tree-lined district in Mendoza), inside the Susana Balbo Winemaker’s House & Spa Suites. The experience revolves around wine, with a seven-course menu designed by Flavia Amad Di Leo in perfect harmony with the house wines.

The Two-Star Podium and the Rest of the Selection

Aramburu, located in the elegant neighborhood of Recoleta in Buenos Aires, revalidated its two Michelin stars, remaining the top Argentine reference at the summit of the selection with its surprise tasting menu that combines technique and innovation with local Argentine products.

In the city of Buenos Aires, these restaurants also maintain one star: Don Julio (a legendary local steakhouse famous for its grilled meats), Trescha, Crizia, and the newly awarded Han. In Mendoza, the list is completed by Azafrán, Angélica Cocina Maestra, Brindillas, Casa Vigil, Riccitelli Bistró, and Zonda Cocina de Paisaje, bringing the total to 14 restaurants with stars.

The 2026 guide also includes 11 Bib Gourmand restaurants (which reward the price-quality ratio), with two new additions: Chuchú and Garabato Bistro, both in Buenos Aires. Furthermore, the recommended category reached 64 establishments after incorporating 13 new venues across Buenos Aires and Mendoza, totaling 89 restaurants cited across all categories.

Special Awards and the Future of Argentine Gastronomy

The announcement also included the delivery of four Special Awards. Enzo González Petra from Cal received the Young Chef award at 28 years old; Nicolas Cordeiro, maître d' of Aramburu, won the Service Award; Camila Torta from Azafrán won the Sommelier Award; and Flavia Arroyo from Casa Cavia won the Exceptional Cocktail Award.

Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guides, highlighted the vitality of Argentine hospitality and technical evolution, noting that fire and embers remain the central axis with Argentine meats as protagonists, while wine takes on growing importance in the dining experience.
