On July 22, 2026, the Argentine Government officially announced in the Official Gazette (the country's official journal where laws and decrees are published) the appointment of 29 magistrates, prosecutors, and public defenders, along with six federal associate judges. The appointments cover key positions across the country, including the provinces of Buenos Aires, Tucuman, Chaco, Salta, Mendoza, Corrientes, and Misiones.
One of the most notable appointments is Juan Tomas Rodriguez Ponte, who will take over as head of Federal Criminal and Correctional Court No. 2 of Lomas de Zamora (a highly populated district in Greater Buenos Aires). This court, previously temporarily managed by Quilmes judge Luis Armella, holds high-sensitivity jurisdiction as it covers the Ezeiza International Airport and the federal prison complex in the area.
Rodriguez Ponte, who served as secretary to federal judge Ariel Lijo and defended his nomination in public Senate hearings, will inherit highly publicized and politically sensitive cases. Among them is the investigation into alleged illicit enrichment and money laundering involving former Buenos Aires province Cabinet Chief Martin Insaurralde and his ex-partner, television personality Jesica Cirio.
Additionally, the court is handling a case investigating alleged irregularities linked to the AFA (Argentine Football Association) and the financial company Sur Finanzas. Businessman Ariel Vallejo is implicated in this case due to his alleged ties with the AFA president, Claudio 'Chiqui' Tapia.
In the north of the country, the Government appointed Patricio Nicolas Sabadini as federal prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office in Resistencia, Chaco province. Sabadini gained notoriety for his work in high-profile public investigations, such as the case involving fake invoices that affected businessman Lazaro Baez (a figure previously linked to former presidents), as well as cases involving Emerenciano Sena, Marcela Acuna, and former Chaco governor Jorge Capitanich.
Another key appointment was Angel Roger Luna Roldan, designated as a chamber judge of the Federal Criminal Oral Tribunal of Tucuman. It is worth noting that his candidacy faced objections during the review of his nomination in the National Senate.
This shake-up in the Federal Judiciary occurs as the national Government returns to its political agenda following the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Recently, the ruling coalition's political committee met to push priority reforms such as the Fiscal Innocence Law and the Electoral Reform, consolidating the Executive's actions across different areas of the State.
