What began as a viral scandal in September 2023 has evolved into one of Argentina's most controversial judicial cases. Videos filmed by Sofía Clerici on a luxury yacht exposed the relationship between Martín Insaurralde—the former mayor of Lomas de Zamora (a major district in Buenos Aires Province)—and Jésica Cirio, a well-known Argentine model and television host.
The footage, which quickly spread across social media, showed wads of U.S. dollars at Fincas de San Vicente, a luxury residential area. This triggered a federal investigation into potential money laundering and illicit enrichment that continues to unfold.
Federal Judge Luis Armella ordered simultaneous raids on properties linked to Jésica Cirio. The operations took place in two key locations:
Martín Insaurralde served as mayor of Lomas de Zamora—one of the most populous districts in Buenos Aires Province, with over 600,000 residents. He was considered a rising star in Argentine politics, with close ties to powerful political figures.
Between 2011 and 2021, he declared a total patrimony of $8,620,967 Argentine pesos. However, investigators have uncovered a lifestyle that appears inconsistent with this declaration.
| Category | Amount |
|---|---|
| International Trips | 75 trips |
| Total Travel Expenses | USD 71,280.40 |
| Marbella, Spain Spending | €41,087.65 + USD 8,189.30 |
| Declared Patrimony (2011-2021) | $8,620,967 ARS |
On November 2025, Cirio publicly confirmed her relationship with Nicolás Trombino and announced her pregnancy. However, the case CCC 36588/2025 reveals a more complex situation. Cirio filed a formal extortion complaint, alleging she sought protection through a video and the delivery of millions of dollars to prevent compromising revelations about her relationship with Insaurralde.
According to judicial documents, Cirio also has a debt of $3,553,000 Argentine pesos with Banco Galicia (one of Argentina's largest private banks). Additionally, she operates Jesica S.A., a company dedicated to cosmetics.
Congresswoman Graciela Ocaña has publicly criticized the judicial delays. She highlighted the stark contrast between Insaurralde's declared assets and his documented international travels—including trips to Marbella, an exclusive Spanish resort town favored by wealthy tourists.
As of now, Insaurralde has not been summoned for questioning, a situation that has sparked public debate about the pace of Argentine justice in cases involving politically connected figures.
Federal Judge Luis Armella continues analyzing seized documentation and financial movements. The investigation covers potential crimes of extortion, money laundering, and illicit enrichment. New procedural measures are expected in the coming weeks, including possible summonses for formal questioning. The case remains open and continues to develop.
