A Wage Proposal Focused on Protecting Workers' Pockets

On July 21, 2026, at the Santa Fe Government House, ministers Fabián Bastia (Government), Pablo Olivares (Economy), and Roald Báscolo (Labor) presented a wage offer to the public sector. This proposal, covering the second half of the year, aims to ensure that salaries outpace inflation and bring peace of mind to provincial workers.

According to official sources, the offer for the central administration consists of a semiannual increase of 15.5%, totaling an annual increment of 36%. It includes month-by-month guaranteed minimums to protect the lowest-income workers, with a direct impact on the mid-year bonus (aguinaldo, a mandatory 13th-month salary in Argentina).

Details of the Increases for the Central Administration

The staggered proposal for public employees, backed by the UPCN and ATE unions, is structured as follows:

  • July: 2% increase with a guaranteed minimum of $80,000 Argentine pesos.
  • August and September: 1.8% and 1.7% respectively, with a guaranteed minimum of $100,000 pesos.
  • October and November: 1.6% and 1.5% respectively, with a minimum of $130,000 pesos.
  • December: 1.5%, reaching a guaranteed minimum of $180,000 pesos.

Minister Olivares highlighted Governor Maximiliano Pullaro's guarantee that no worker would receive an increase of less than 17.1% in the first half of the year, paying the differences through a complementary payslip for the month of June.

Proposal for the Education Sector

In parallel, the provincial government presented an offer to teachers' unions that rounds out to a nearly 15% increase for the second half of the year, totaling an average annual increase of 49.01%. The proposal was presented by ministers José Goity (Education) and Pablo Olivares, along with the General Secretary of Education, María Martín.

In the benchmark case of a classroom teacher without seniority, working 25 weekly hours, the take-home pay in December 2026 would be $1,517,481 Argentine pesos. Additionally, further professionalization is planned for directive and supervisory staff.

A Strategy for Social Peace

The Santa Fe government's approach aims to carefully protect the base of the salary pyramid. With inflation projected to fall below 2% monthly for the second half of the year, the official strategy prioritizes guaranteed minimums as a distribution criterion, seeking to gain allies within the union bases and unblock negotiations without disruptions.
